The Emergency Department at Odessa Regional Medical Center provides around-the-clock care for adults and children experiencing illness or injury. Physicians, nurses, and clinical staff work together to assess your condition, provide treatment, and keep you informed throughout your visit.

We understand that a trip to the emergency room can be overwhelming. Our team is committed to clear communication and helping patients and families understand the next steps in their care.

What to Expect During Your Emergency Room Visit

Triage
Upon arrival, a registered nurse will assess your symptoms, obtain vital signs, and review your medical history. This process helps identify patients who need immediate attention and allows our team to prioritize care based on medical need.

Registration
You will be asked to provide basic information for registration. A physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner will evaluate your condition and determine the appropriate course of care.

Evaluation
Once you are in a treatment area, your care team will perform an examination and may order diagnostic testing, such as laboratory work, X-rays, CT scans, or other imaging studies to help evaluate your condition.

Treatment
Your treatment plan will be based on your evaluation and test results. Throughout your visit, our team will explain procedures, answer questions, and keep you informed about your care.

Admission or Discharge
Many patients receive treatment and return home the same day. If hospital admission is necessary, you will be transferred to an inpatient room where your care will continue. If you have a primary care physician, we will communicate information about your hospital stay. If you do not have a primary care physician, a member of the medical staff will oversee your care during your hospitalization.
